Take a look at Karl's newest offerings. And to see who sat front row. Chanel's set designer was clearly inspired by the right? Today as Paris Fashion Week nears its apogee, Karl Lagerfeld capitalized on the drama, putting on a show that was soaked in luxurious coats and trousers as well as striking scenery.

More from TheKit. It was certainly a diverse collection of creations from A-lines to dropped waists, palettes that were muted or bright, and styles spanning decades. But Tuesday's shows had one key thing in common: imagination. The French fashion president, one of the most discreet yet powerful figures in the world of fashion thus answers detractors who predict the demise of the age-old tradition.
It's not just about selling clothes: it's an advert, an ideas factory," added Grumbach. Chanel haute couture. Their presence showed the unique and enduring allure of year-old Chanel.
Down the catwalk, adorned with vintage sketches of Coco Chanel's lavish house interior, went shimmering silk tweed skirt suits, ensembles from the '50s and '60s, and a '30s bolero jacket. Other outfits sparkled with a contemporary metallic sheen. In some instances, Lagerfeld resurrected the s.
A series of ensembles in big, bold textured checks in black, grey and white channeled the decade's strong shoulders and narrow hemline. In other looks, pink tulle fringing recreated a dropped waist effect from the s. Elsewhere, double-breasted A-lines, a Peter Pan collar and ensembles in pale pink and white might have come straight out of Jacqueline's Kennedy early '60s wardrobe.
The boldest looks came toward the end: Lagerfeld let his pony-tailed hair down in a shimmering electric blue dress that could have been Coco's answer to s glam rock. The tulle with pearl took 3, hours. Couture is for a world of privilege. But is there ever time for looking back? Not really, according to Lagerfeld.
His accomplished fall-winter collection on Tuesday began with a daybreak of sorts, in lighter shades of mauve and lavender in organzas and double crepe. Shoulders were emphasized, some with upward scooped tailoring. Then as the sun set, the couture got to work. Embroidered veils appeared, signalling the dimness of dusk. Geometric embroidery accompanied black tulle tops with Swarovski crystals. Spectators gasped as the show climaxed at midnight in blue, naturally with some of the most sumptuous dresses seen this season.
The subtlety proves one thing: Armani lives up to his reputation for versatility. Only last month, in Beijing he staged a show with bright va-va voom, mermaid silhouettes. Here, things were more restrained and the looks, mirroring the cycle of time, oozed elegant sensuality. And what better advertisement for elegance across time is Sophia Loren? The beautiful year old film star sat in the front row. But rarely does the front row presence upstage a show, as reality TV star Kim Kardashian and her boyfriend, musician Kanye West, did during Stephane Rolland's rather predictable fall-winter offering.
The couple's entrance and exit triggered a crowd that spilled out into the street.
Anti-Age Magazine #36
The media scrum caused a mother and her young daughter to be shoved to the side. But the celebrity presence here is no great surprise. Last season, Yasmin Le Bon was Rolland's muse.
With the celebrity hullabaloo, fashion insiders momentarily forgot the reason they came: the clothes. The trains and long capes in many of the ensembles, like last season, floated past giving the model a Supergirl silhouette. But the lack of new ideas, made the show feel more like a diluted superhero sequel. Style confession time: while we love watching and could absolutely never afford Chanel's newest collections, we absolutely adore seeing who wears what in the front row. And we weren't disappointed after Tuesday's Haute Couture show in Paris.
Oh yeah, and there was a runway show featuring nearly every model of the moment draped in Karl Lagerfeld's latest creations. Are chokers coming back in? Take a look and tell us who was best-dressed at the Chanel show.
The iconic house's fun, young collection headlined the penultimate day of Paris spring-summer show. The fact the show had nothing whatsoever to do with the several eco-turbines constructed for the event — no doubt at a huge cost to the environment — didn't seem to matter.
A pinch of salt, too, may have been required Sarah Burton's ode to the McQueen bee, which mixed regal looking crinolines, s silhouttes with bees and insect armory. As ever, the Alexander McQueen's ready-to-wear show was Paris Fashion Week's most original, living up to the spirit of the designer who died in Trends on Tuesday included cutouts, as featured in a strong showing from Valentino — with Jennifer Lopez on the front row — and in Paco Rabanne's signature "69" dics that exposed inches of bare flesh.
Wednesday — the grand finale of a dense and vibrant week — includes shows from Elie Saab, Miu Miu and powerhouse Louis Vuitton. Silver bauble appliques became buttons, A-line skirts were playfully short, colorful checks contrasted funkily with geometric flashes, and feather fringing billowed exuberantly. One model in a crossing "C" swimsuit even carried a three-foot nearly 1 meter handbag.
A bold new fashion idea was the reworked bolero jacket with curved shoulders, often spruced up with inflated arms. The wide T-shaped bolero silhouette spread onto sweaters and inspired many of the show's best looks. Naturally, many of the brighter ensembles stood out, too. Bright pink and blue felted oversized sweaters were accessorized to kitsch effect with huge pale or silver pearl necklace clusters.
There was a highly accomplished delivery of color palette also, which lifted one checked red-and-white A-line dress, with the top part sliced off.
It paired beautifully with a contrasting, yet complementary loose blue and red coat. Another stand out piece was a white bateau-neck ensemble with check navy bands with a clean, slightly sporty vide. Lagerfeld, who turns 80 next year, certainly hasn't let age slow him down: It's the youngest collection Chanel's seen for a while. At least it is for Sarah Burton, who tapped her fantastical imagination for Alexander McQueen to conjure up fashion week's most original show: Mixing insect-like armory with on-trend stiff bar jackets of the New Look, as well as 19th century crinoline.
If it sounds strange, it was — set to a backdrop of images of bees and honeycomb — with each model wearing a visor reminiscent at once of the s wide hat, a cage and a beekeepers mask.
Have fashions over the ages, she seemed to ask, caged and protected us like in the natural world? A cinched metal or tortoiseshell waist band — a recurrent Burton feature — which fanned out into a peplum in some of the looks resembled an abdomen of a wasp or queen bee. The fascinating collection of 31 looks — which had fashion insiders amazed — was as thought-out as it was perfectly executed with metal mesh materials that sparkled mechanically.
The s were visited in full skirts which mixed with structuralist fashion: Hard bodice cages, which showed the inner working of corsetry of the crinoline age, on the outside. The last collections revisited the queen theme: Billowing structured skirts in beige, soft yellow and vermilion looked like a surrealist take on Marie Antoinette.
Italian design duo Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli kept their strict, high collars and didn't bare too much flesh but eased their conservative designs, in razor-thin slits and tiny transparent cutouts. Elsewhere, diaphanous see-through outer garments in black tulle really worked well in bringing home the collection's message of provocative shyness.
Some of the outfits sported front bibs — wavy silk U-shaped bands — Valentino's more conservative version of the on-trend ruffle shown by Riccardo Tisci's show for Givenchy. Two gorgeous red silk dresses appeared at the end, evoking the spirit of the house DNA. Founder Valentino Garavani, 80, was seated in the front row and applauded thunderously when the show ended.
The starting point of the show was Jean Clemmer and Paco Rabanne's controversial s photo collaboration called "Canned Candies," which resurfaced two years ago: Images of naked women in bold armorlike jewelry.
Maurer's show thus had a vibe of the sexual revolution with provocative dresses that bared much flesh — all held together with Rabanne's signature "69" disc. It evoked the essence of the founder, who first cut his teeth in jewelry design. One gold fringed number made a bold gladiator-like statement, marching past to the sound of rustling metal. But some of the tailored ensembles let the collection down. Here are our favorite Qs and As from the interview.
For more. What do you think about everything that has been going on with John Galliano? Well, I think that John Galliano is a genius. I've been working with him since I was young, and I admire him. I just wish for him the best. There have been a lot of images or editorials over the last couple of years that feature all black models -- you just appeared in one called February issue.
How do you feel about these types of spreads? Do you feel like they are gimmicks or do you think they help take steps toward more inclusion in fashion? Edward Enninful is an amazing stylist for Italian Vogue, and he called me up and he asked if I would rides closed at disneyland april 2015 a part of that story. Of course I said yes. The story came out beautiful. So you find them empowering? I think that [diversity] is becoming a very very huge thing for the market. I think that it'sand it's definitely time for change. And I'm just really grateful to be a leader in helping that change. Do you see yourself as the Tyra Banks or the Naomi Campbell for zi perdre du poids xls next generation?
No, I look at myself for who I am. I think those girls are good at what they do, and they have an amazing name for who they are. I'm my own person, and I want people to know me for who I am. And to see Chanel in the "Black Allure" spread. What is with these ladies?!
One V. Secret model is living on water before a show and now another is gorging herself to gain 15 pounds which sounds really unbelievable considering the fact that 15 lbs would change her measurements Either side of the polarities not eating or gorging is still not a healthy image to project to women.
I have some advice for these models, how about not talking about what you eat or don't this is one time when I wish these models would stand quietly and look pretty. Stop putting this potentially harmful information out there, young girls are listening, watching and learning. If you can't say anything to upgrade the conversation don;t say anything at all!
I know this is harsh but I'm just annoyed!? See, this kind of crap is why I say the world has gone mad. What is wrong with you people!? And what's worse is I guarantee that there not only are people out there who not only wish they could have this silly crap, but people who would actually pay that much for one. And people wonder why so many people want to raise taxes on "the rich.
I personally have never seen the preoccupation and obsession with "shiny things. But gold is too soft to be used for anything but. Yes, diamonds are ultra hard, and make for great abrasives and cutting tools, but their ridiculously exorbitant costs make them impractical in wide scale use. And then you have things like this, or rappers who spend a half million dollars on a diamond encrusted cross, then go and rap about killing people, raping women and doing drugs. I say tax the rich at an ever increasing rate commensurate with their level of income, until everyone is within just a few thousand dollars of each other.?
Have you officially made it as a model when you're a frequent victim of Photoshop disasters? If that's the case, then we'd like formally to welcome Chanel Iman to the elite models' ranks. Just like fromsomething very egregious is going on with this new February cover of France's. Is it just us, or are her hands the size of her face? We're pretty sure Chanel doesn't have arms that slowly expand lengthwise as they reach her wrists.
A quick scan of her previous campaigns, reveals that, yep, Chanel's arms are downright normal IRL. The whole gaffe kind of reminds us of Maybe it's just a bad month for magazine cover airbrushing. To ring in the alcohol-soaked milestone, Chanel's got large-scale plans although for a girl who's walked the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, "large-scale" is a very relative term.
Me, my family and my closest friends are staying at a really cool resort called Round Hill and I'm going to throw a reggae-themed party on this island. Maybe we can tag along, Chanel? We suppose we'll settle for seeing fun party pics afterwards.

But it does have a village feel to it, which is a result of the people who live here, as opposed to being a small community in the countryside.
Wanstead has gone through many changes over the last years. The centre of the village used to be Nightingale Green, not the High Street, and even up to the s, Wanstead was part of Essex, not London. At the start of March, the Wanstead Society and local residents took part in a mass litter pick, so tired were we of the rubbish that people throw on the floor.
Each year in Wanstead there are at least a few street parties to bring neighbours together. So perhaps Wanstead has a village mentality set in an urban context.
Sure, marketing Wanstead as a village is the same as saying Hampstead or Walthamstow has a village. They too are suburban parts of London.
But they also have local societies like ours that seek to protect and promote their areas. They too are places families want to live, socialise and work in. There are similarities between them. Maybe that is why house prices go up; people want to live here not just because of the good schools, transport links, shops, green spaces and so on, but because of you and the community of which you are a part.

Ever thought about fly-tipping? Well, now your days are numbered if you do. Meet The Flytipper, the monstrous creation of award-winning filmmaker and Wanstead resident Marc Coleman. I have been working across various platforms in the arts for over 10 years. I started a career in comedy 12 years ago and progressed from there. Oscarworthy, right? Five years ago I moved into filmmaking and started a small production company called Doggedfilms. Last year, I won an Empire Award for a short film I made with no money.
The film was chosen by a panel of industry experts, had a spread in the July issue of Empire magazine and led to me heading out to LA for an awards evening at Paramount Studios. My mum was over the moon. I came up with the idea of The Flytipper after walking around our local borough and seeing the waste that gets left on the side of the road, in woodland areas and down our backstreets. So many cool and unique creatures. But how could I make a monster different from the rest? It seemed after taking a walk around Hollow Ponds that I finally had my monster.
Funny how inspiration hits sometimes. The monster is a hybrid of refuse and possessed rubbish, armed with numerous ways to kill its victims, like vacuum cleaner arms to strangulate, a washing machine.
Lyft free rides for black history month
Standing over nine feet tall, the monster is scary, absurd and built to kill. As the film is a homage to those movies I grew up with, the monster will be a practical, life-size puppet manned by two people. No computergenerated imagery will be used in the film. We are currently crowdfunding on Indiegogo.
We are asking for backers to donate. All donations will go towards the costs of making the film equipment, practical effects and transport. If you can donate, I would be extremely grateful. Opening up the gates Wanstead resident Teresa Farnham is the local area organiser for the National Garden Scheme, which encourages people across the country to open their gardens to the public for charity.
I had worked as a professional gardener and teacher for 12 years and knew about the scheme through visiting other open gardens. Sincethe NGS has been operational in opening gardens and was assisted by the active support of the King, who opened the gardens of Sandringham.
I had always loved gardening and was delighted to be able to share my patch with new people. However, nothing prepared me for our open day when we had the heaviest rainfall of the year! The next year two days before the openingI awoke to see the very large pond sited in a former air raid shelter had sprung a leak. I was frantically borrowing buckets to save the fish left gasping at the bottom before we could repair the leak in the butyl liner. Several years later, when the assistant area organiser moved away, I was asked to take her place.
The criteria are that the gardens should be well maintained and of interest to visitors, who sometimes travel for several hours. My job as a volunteer is to help with providing support to the owners who are kind enough to open up their gardens and provide tea and cakes. Please, please, please consider opening your garden for the NGS. I will gladly visit and advise you. It is a lot of fun and a great way to contribute to charity.
For more information on the gardens open locally this year, pick up the NGS London guide book from Wanstead Library, or visit ngs.

The inspiration originally came from a member of the Friends of Wanstead Parklands, Richard Joynson, who regularly posted links on our Facebook page to items coming up for sale on eBay. I was very taken by the variety and interest, not to mention research value, of what I was seeing, and started buying them.
As well as postcards, I also have some original photographs, engravings, artworks and other items. I am still actively collecting and will add to my online archive as the collection grows. I have now uploaded these images to eHive, an online resource used by museums, societies and private collectors worldwide to catalogue and publish their collections. The postcard craze was sparked inwhen the Post Office allowed both the address and message to be written on one side of the card, freeing up the whole of the other side for the picture.
By this time, too, the size of cards had been largely standardised. Vast numbers of different designs were produced, many of them now very rare. My ultimate intention is to donate my collection to a public archive where it will be available to researchers.
In the meantime, I would be glad to hear from any local readers who have items they would like to sell or donate. To view Richard's collection on eHive, visit wavidi. Are you moving home? Paul Wershof of local solicitors Wiseman Lee explains the recent changes to the amount of compensation insurance companies must pay to those who have suffered life-changing injuries.
But before readers start to weep into their cornflakes at the fate of our insurance industry, rest assured that the cost will be passed to consumers in the form of increased premiums over the next few years. So, why has the government done this?
The Discount Rate, also known as the Ogden Rate, is a calculation used by the courts to determine how much insurance companies should pay out to customers in cases of lifechanging injury and any case where future losses, such as care costs or loss of earnings, are claimed. The Discount Rate is linked by law to returns on the lowest risk investments, typically IndexLinked Government bonds, the yield on which has fallen dramatically since A statement from the Ministry of Justice said: "The law makes clear that claimants must be treated as risk-averse investors, reflecting the fact that they are financially dependent on this lump sum, often for long periods or the duration of their life.
Compensation awards using the rate should put the claimant in the same financial position had they not been injured, including loss of future earnings and care costs. The outrage of the insurance industry is misplaced and the change in the rate, although long overdue, will be welcomed by those that seek justice for the severely injured.

Bags for life Wanstead resident Frank Charles has previously featured on these pages as part of our ongoing occasional Angels series of articles. True to form, Frank talks about Feed The Streetz, his latest charitable project. Since then, I have had a great deal of sympathy for people who, for reasons often beyond their control, are living on the streets. I was fortunate in that, when I was homeless, there was provision for people like me, and I was offered a place in a hostel.
Unfortunately, in the current financial climate, safeguards such as this have largely been cut. Most people do not choose to live out of a carrier bag, sleeping on cardboard boxes, alone and afraid. There are many reasons for homelessness: breakdown of relationships, loss of job and mental health problems, to name a few. I have been running a food bank in east London for several years and used to take food over to rough sleepers in Stratford on an ad hoc basis.
Then, before Christmas, I helped out at an event for homeless people and saw how many people attended. I was shocked. So, two months ago, I decided to do something proactive. That was when I launched Feed The Streetz. The worst part of being homeless for me was waking up, cold and lonely, with an empty stomach. At the moment, my wife and I make up 20 breakfast bags a week and take them out at 6.
Each breakfast bag contains a sandwich, cereal bar, fresh fruit, water and sometimes. Ideally, we would like to expand Feed The Streetz to 25 breakfast bags, two mornings a week, and we are looking for donations of money, cereal bars, individual bottles of water or fruit juice, individual pork pies and sausage rolls, cheese pasties, crisps, wipes, sandwich bags or anything else that can be easily given to someone who is homeless.
Money donations will pay for fresh fruit and perishables. For more information about Frank's charity work and to make a donation, visit frankcharles. Bathworks can offer supply only, or arrange supply. Visit our showroom and see some of the latest bathroom ranges.
OurOpening experienced advisors are- Friday on-hand to discusswyour requirements and give advice. This is just one aspect. It is important to note that Redbridge Neighbourhood Watch is a Trust, which is a registered charity governed by the Charities Commission.
There is a board of trustees who oversee the function and integrity of the work we do, as well as a chairman and treasurer who are also trustees. On a day-to-day level, NHW is run by a team of dedicated ward coordinators, local people whose role is to help and support watch coordinators.
The overall aim of NHW is to work together for the overall benefit of the movement in Redbridge. The organisation is not political in any sense and is independent of all groups, including Safer Neighbourhood Boards and Ward Panels although for cohesion, a lot of members of NHW are chairmen of the panels, myself included for Wanstead and Snaresbrook.
NHW, particularly in Wanstead and Snaresbrook, are actively involved in the local community. NHW is more than willing to help other charities and communities raise their profile in the area where it is in accordance with our aims for togetherness and reducing crime.
In short, NHW is a unifying organisation which aims to link with the community that it serves and assist with promoting other organisations where possible for the sake of community cohesion, which has the benefit of lowering crime rates. Support is provided in setting up a watch, but each watch coordinator is left to make their own decisions, as are the ward coordinators, with support given by Chairman Mark Glazer as necessary.
We also work very closely with the police at all levels in our joint effort to reduce crime in the borough. We are currently one of the lowest crime areas in the northeast London region. For more information, visit redbridgenhw.

In his portrait, Roe is sporting a large ruff, a popular accessory in the late s and early s. Ruffs were expensive because they were hard to maintain as they needed constant starching.

Local photographer Tim Reder is a football enthusiast and has in the past year published photographic studies of Leyton Orient and West Ham United. In the fifth of a series of articles, Tim explains that football isn't everything.
As well as taking pictures for club purposes, this allowed me to continue my historic recording of my favourite club. When I stopped being Orient photographer in my next stop was Verona, where I photographed the first season of minnows Chievo playing in serie A the Italian equivalent of the Premier Leagueat the end of which the club published a book of the pictures to celebrate its achievements.
One thing leading to another, I then spent many a weekend over the next five years travelling the length and breadth of Italy, recording the passion of football in that country. It was quite a thrill to be at the touchline at the great stadiums in Turin, Milan and Rome, photographing some of the best teams and players in the world, in front of wildly colourful and passionate supporters. I then selected the. I photographed football not just as a historic record but also as a means of expression, so football was never going to be my only artistic outlet.
From the outset, my subject matter was eclectic, being attracted to everything in which I found meaning, whether it be human, architectural, floral or fauna, figurative or abstract. Much of my earliest work was street photography, where I would look to capture a special moment or a striking architectural facet.
These moments may be small or grand, but all could be given the same intensity and significance through the medium of photography.

Most of this output was black and white film. I greatly enjoyed the process and became proficient at printing, which meant hundreds of hours in the darkroom breathing in unhealthy chemicals. As you can imagine, I became an advocate of digital photography as soon as cameras could obtain results commensurate with that of film. This transformed my work, enabling me to do so much more with a picture and at far greater speed.
Not having to worry about film and developing costs has allowed photographers to be more experimental. Film has left me one final task and I am now in the process of scanning my negatives. One subject in my archive of particular interest to Wansteadians will be my documenting of the M11 link road demonstrations.
Whatever direction photography leads me in next, I know it will be an exciting journey. We are a small family tree surgery business based in east London that offers a range of arboricultural services: everything from trimming small front garden privet hedges to pollarding or felling fully mature trees. During the week, pupils and staff learned more about the benefits of sleep and its influence on our wellbeing and mental health. Staff and pupils also took part in sleep yoga, on the top floor of the Martin Centre, which gave them the tools and methods to switch off after a long day.
Following day one, the second saw Foresters take part in a non-uniform day, with pupils from Lower School given the chance to wear onesies. The pupils really engaged with the day and I think many relaxed and thought more about how turning their phone off can help them achieve uninterrupted sleep, which leads to feeling more refreshed the next day.
During the week, there were a number of events to raise awareness of the benefits of sleep and to encourage pupils to sleep more.
